The Vienna Christmas Dream (17.11. – 30.12.2017)
One of the most beautiful and also versatile Christmas Markets is the Vienna Christmas Dream at the Townhall Square, for sure! Right at the entrance of the Townhall Square, an impressing archway which is illuminated by atmospheric candlelight, awaits the visitors. Right behind it, there are more than 150 traditional stalls which offer Christmas gifts, Christmas tree decorations and art handicrafts as well as culinary delicacies, sweets and warming drinks. The trees in the Townhall Square park and along the Ringstraße are also festively lit. Aside from that, two huge icy surfaces and serpentine paths through the park invite to ice skating. For the kids, there is an own children’s world with carrousel, reindeer train, Punch-and-Judy show, crib and a Christmas fairytale forest where gorgeous light installations make Christmas tales come alive. Moreover, the visitors can do curling, or listen to the choir, a lecture of the Christ Child and the festive brass music. The mix of old customs and great attractions provides for an unforgettable Advent season and thereby will get you in the perfect mood for the coming Christmas festival.
Tollwood Winter Festival in Munich (23.11. – 31.12.2017)
Another really special Christmas Market is the Tollwood Winter Festival in Munich. Here, enjoyment of culture and soulfulness are united with the passionate dedication to our environment. In the “Weltsalon”, a multimedia designed tent, for instance, current ecological and social issues are addressed. Open forums and installations are thought-provoking in the pensive season and provide great New Year’s resolutions, for sure. This year, the motto of the Winter Festival reads “We, all” and reminds the visitors of the fact that we all need to stand up for freedom, democracy, tolerance and diversity. Finest Bio-gastronomy with numerous vegetarian and vegan delicacies convince here as well as the support of fair trade with peasants from developing countries. In addition to that, you will find art handicrafts from all over the world and extraordinary gift ideas in the manifold affectionately designed booths on the “Market of Ideas”. International exhibitors offer traditional goods and authentic dishes from foreign countries. Furthermore, the Tollwood Festival comes up with versatile events like theatre, comedy, cabaret, acrobatics and concerts which mostly are even for free. The annual New Year’s Eve Party provides the culmination of the Tollwood Winter Festival.
